Celebrating American Business Women's Day
About 35 years ago, the American Business Women’s Association created a day to honor the many contributions of women in the workforce, those who have started their own businesses or those dominating their industries. In short, this holiday brings together #GirlBosses and embraces their personal and professional growth.
It only seemed fitting that I debut the new site today as a growing #BossLady.
When I started freelancing, I knew three things:
I’m a writer.
I know social media and how to make it work.
I want to help people reach their professional and creative goals.
My formula for success is this: 60% What I already know + 40% What’s left to know.
It may seem odd to say, but there’s always more to learn. Even when you’re an expert, especially in an industry like public relations or social media, you can never become complacent. There’s always going to be a one-up; algorithms are always changing, new features are added to apps often, the way we communicate is constantly evolving in the age of technology.
You can’t be the best, if you don’t have the best information to offer.
So naturally, my day-to-day includes a lot of research. Pining through the latest in digital marketing, public relations and entrepreneurship, is important for knowing how to best manage your site and socials and help others’ do the same. Even when you’ve got the site, the popping e-mail list and ever-growing clientele, you’ve got to keep growing.
In addition to following the greats in social media (like Hootsuite, Buffer or Social Media Today), I love learning from others in my industry, especially other women. We are dominating a whole industry and slaying appropriately! Along the way, I have grown through the conversations, webinars, blogs, and twitter feeds of a bunch of strong, digital-marketing moguls, creative writers, and entrepreneurs.
